The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living

Author: Louise Miller
Genre: Fiction
Rating: ★★★★★
Louise Miller’s The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living begins when Livvie Rawlings’s carefully built life in Boston goes down in flames, sending her retreating to Guthrie, Vermont, the small town where her best friend lives. What begins as a temporary escape slowly turns into something deeper as Livvie finds herself embraced by the rhythms of rural life and the warmth of a community that offers the sense of family and belonging she didn’t realize she had been missing. Through baking contests, local traditions, and the quiet generosity of neighbors, Livvie begins to rebuild both her confidence and her future.
Miller’s writing is pure charm. She captures Vermont so vividly that you feel every season pass—crisp autumn mornings, snowy winters, and the slow, hopeful return of spring. Banjo music drifts through town gatherings, pies and pastries become small acts of love, and the people of Guthrie feel wonderfully real. The story is cozy, heartfelt, and full of small-town magic. It was an absolute joy to read, and I closed the book hoping Louise Miller will bring us back to Guthrie again soon—please, please!
