Who Is Jennibet? It Begins With My Great-Grandmother.
Jennibet was the name everyone used for my great-grandmother, Virginia Elizabeth Lawless Manning Mayes—a humble and precious woman we also called Mama Mayes. I’m Beth, and I was named for her and for another my grandmother, Emma Elizabeth Manning Plott Hodnett. That family story is where the name Jennibet begins.

I’m a writer, reader, teacher, and lifelong learner with deep Southern roots. My work brings together Scripture, the Jewish roots of faith, thoughtful storytelling, and the everyday experiences that make life meaningful.
I’m naturally an introvert and usually happiest working behind the scenes. I live in Middle Tennessee with my husband, Barry, and our son, Joey. I love meaningful books, thoughtful writing, travel, and those small, ordinary moments that make life beautiful.

Elizabeth Shulam is a biblical educator, author, and speaker specializing in the historical and cultural context of Scripture. Her work helps modern readers rediscover the Jewish foundations of faith through clear scholarship, practical application, and thoughtful teaching.
Elizabeth writes and teaches about spiritual formation, discipleship, and the enduring strength of women in Scripture. She hosts Shalom Y’all, a Bible study that traces the New Testament’s foundations through the Hebrew Bible, and has spoken to women’s groups in Finland and Brazil.
With her husband, Barry Shulam, Elizabeth serves through Netivyah International, building bridges between Jewish and Gentile believers in Yeshua. Together they host The Blended Kitchen and travel internationally to teach, speak, and encourage the body of Messiah.
